Project Restart is in order for businesses and scaffolding workers to get back to some sort of normality since the Coronavirus Outbreak, however, HSE (The Health and Safety Executive) have issued a safety alert over dodgy Chinese face-masks which are flooding the UK market.

Safety Alert over Face-Masks

Safety Alert for Scaffolders

The HSE has stated a safety alert on these sub-standard, telling those with face-masks that it ‘SHOULD NOT’ be used as PPE in the workplace. It has been reported that a substantial number of face-masks.

claiming to be of KN95 standards, provide an inadequate level of protection for COVID-19 and are likely to contain poor quality products with fake/fraudulent paperwork.

There is no official independent certification or assurance of their quality and products manufactured to KN95 rating are declared as complaint by the manufacturer.

PPE Assurance

PPE cannot be sold or supplied as PPE unless it is CE marked. However, the only exception is that the PPE is organised by the UK government for use by the NHS or other healthcare workers where assessments have been undertaken by HSE as the ‘Market Surveillance Authority’.

Masks that are not CE marked and cannot be shown to be complaint must be removed from supply immediately. If these masks have not been through the necessary safety assessments, the effectiveness with controlling the virus and any other risk cannot be assured for anyone buying or using them. This is unlikely to provide you and others around you the protection from catching Coronavirus.

CE Marked

If any face-masks are CE marked, suppliers must be able to demonstrate how they know the documentation and CE marking is genuine, supported by Notified Body documentation showing compliance with the essential HSE requirements that is required by the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations.
